FEMA's Grant Programs Directorate, in partnership with the National Criminal Justice Association (NCJA), will conduct Basic Fundamentals of Grants Management Workshops for recipients of FEMA grant funding. This Grants Management Technical Assistance (GMTA) program provides grants management principles and practices to state, regional, local and tribal jurisdictions. The workshops are designed for individuals with less than one year of experience managing FEMA grants.
Basic Fundamentals of Grants Management will be held at the following locations:
- Dallas, Texas (April 27 - April 28, 2010)
- Denver, Colorado (May 18 - May 19, 2010)
- New York, New York (August 24 - August 25, 2010)
The upcoming workshops will review basic principles and practices that will enhance the ability of FEMA's grant recipients to administer federal grant funding. The target audience includes direct recipients such as State Administrative Agencies (SAA), Transit Security Grant Program (TSGP) and Port Security Grant Program (PSGP) personnel, Assistance to Firefighter Grant (AFG) specialists, and/or subrecipients such as Urban Areas Securities Initiative (UASI) personnel.
Workshop Objectives:
- Understand/integrate the business process of grants management and focus on critical events.
- Improve collaboration among policy, program, and financial staff to identify a team approach.
- Identify and share grants management tools and resources.
- Develop or revise policies, procedures and practices in critical areas of grants management (e.g., monitoring, procurement and equipment inventory).
- Prepare for federal monitoring and successfully conduct subrecipient monitoring.
- Prepare for performance and financial audits.
Organizations should plan to attend as teams comprised of the policy, program and financial grants management disciplines within their grant recipient organizations.
Grantees are invited to attend the Dallas, Denver, or New York workshop.
Registration for the workshop is free. Participants are responsible for travel and lodging costs. Check with your Program Manager to see if travel costs for this training are an allowable Management and Administrative cost.
